Foundation Announces Leadership Transition

The Washington County Community Foundation announces that Executive Director Molly Dahlgren will be stepping down from her full-time role on July 1 and will remain on the Foundation in a part-time capacity.

Dahlgren has served as Executive Director since July 2024 and has been involved in guiding the Foundation through a period of significant growth.

During her time, the Foundation’s assets have grown from just under $8 million to more than $15 million, which is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Foundation’s leadership, board of directors, and community supporters.

“The Foundation is growing and we are making a difference. Serving as Executive Director has truly been a dream job,” said Dahlgren. “I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished over the past two years. Our success is the result of a strong team and a dedicated board who care deeply about our mission and devote countless hours to advancing it.”

Dahlgren shared that her decision comes as she looks to spend more time with her growing family. She and her husband, Dan, recently welcomed their fourth grandchild, Samuel, in March. They also are proud grandparents to Micah (6), and Walker and Avery, both almost 2.

As part of this transition, Dahlgren will remain involved with the Foundation in a part-time capacity, focusing on community outreach and promoting the Foundation’s impact.

Cassie Petersen, who joined the Foundation a year ago as a part-time coordinator, will step into the role of Executive Director. Dahlgren expressed full confidence in Petersen’s leadership.

“When Cassie came on board, I knew she would be ready for the challenge when it was my time to step back,” Dahlgren said. "Cassie is a lifelong resident of Blair, rooted in the community, and she truly wants what’s best for Washington County. She is a natural fit for this role, and I am confident the Foundation will be in great hands under her leadership.”

Prior to joining the Foundation, Petersen worked for Courteous Kids, specializing in Community Engagement, and most recently as an employee of Children’s Hospital a Patient Access Specialist, and DHHS as a Direct Support Professional.

Petersen is actively involved with several nonprofit organizations in the community, wanting to contribute and make a positive impact. She recently earned her master’s degree in Human and Family Services, further strengthening her commitment to serving others. Cassie and her husband, Jake, also a lifelong Blair resident, reside north of Blair with their children Claire, Auggie (6) and Joanna (4).

Looking ahead, Dahlgren remains optimistic about the Foundation’s future.

“We are just beginning to scratch the surface of what we can achieve,” she said. “I am grateful for this experience and excited to see the Foundation continue to grow and serve our community in meaningful ways under Cassie’s direction. It has been a pleasure and I will always treasure my time here, serving a community I love.”
