Blair City Council: Mar 10

Scooters, Water for OPPD, PACE and Southern Hills.

A company in California has shown interest in bringing motorized scooters to downtown Blair – in a situation much like the scooters used in the Old Market section of Omaha. That company showing interest in expanding that business to Blair due to the close proximity to the metro area. The city of Blair would get a portion of the profits in exchange.

Ordinances would need to be amended in order to pave the way for this business to settle into Blair. City council members discussed the matter and felt that the current traffic in Blair would be too dangerous for a scooter rental business to be safe. No motion was made after the discussion and that matter died during last night’s City Council meeting.

The City of Blair and Omaha Public Power District have a contract to supply water to the now decommissioned Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant. OPPD does not need the water, but the contract has several more years.

An agreement which allows OPPD to buy out the agreement and install and maintain more energy efficient equipment at the city’s water treatment plant was approved.

Also at the Blair City Council meeting last night, approval given to PACE, which is a financing program for those who want to use energy efficient fixtures in new construction. The move will aide in economic development.

The City Council also approved use of two point six million dollars in registered warrants for the Southern Hills Subdivision.
