Prevent Scammers From Stealing Numbers

Be careful of sharing your phone number on social media or on internet resale sites. Scammers will call those numbers, pretend to be interested in an item you may be selling, then send you a Google authentication code and ask you to send it back to prove you’re a legitimate seller. That code, however, allows them to link their Google voice number to your real number and use it to scam others.

If someone wants to confirm that you’re a real person, the internet safety team at Creighton University recommends meeting at a busy public place, being cautious with anyone you do not know, and avoid sharing a confirmation or authentication code with others, especially for financial accounts.
