A little after noon Tuesday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request to check on the well being of a man suffering from a mental health episode. When deputies arrived, they observed a man in body armor and armed with an assault rifle. The Washington County Tactical Team and negotiators attempted to talk to the man. Tuesday morning, the man charged with murder in the death of a Fort Calhoun priest in December of 2023, Kierre Williams, plead guilty to those charges.     Washington County Attorney Scott VanderSchaaf says Mr. Williams chose to hold himself accountable and to not put Father Gutgsell’s family, relatives, friends or this community through a trial, and added there would be no further comments until after sentencing.
