Scammers are always attempting to con people out of their personal information to obtain their money. A variety of tactics are used.
One of the scams circulating now: the targeted person receives a call, allegedly from the U.S. Marshall’s Service, saying that the recipient or one of their family members is the subject of an investigation.
Other schemes insist that the victim’s family member is in trouble and needs immediate funds for fines or bail, and a prepaid card or bank information is demanded.
The U.S. Marshall’s service says do not give out personal information in a call or email that you did not initiate and to contact your nearest police department – or you can report the incident to the FBI online at IC3.gov.
