OBITUARIES 12.20.22

Former State Senator Ray Janssen passed away Saturday in Fremont. He served in the Unicameral from 1993 to 2009. A native of Nickerson, he also served on Logan View and Nickerson School Boards. Visitation is today, 3pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen. Janssen’s funeral is 10:30 tomorrow at Salem Lutheran in Fontenelle.


69 year old William Tapley, most recently a Cass County deputy, succumbed to cancer. Tapley began his law enforcement career Washington County in 2001 according to sheriff Mike Robinson. He is survived by his son, Troy Houghton, his grandchildren and siblings. The Memorial service is 11am Thursday at Roeder Mortuary.

61 year old Anne Anderson of Omaha passed away December 14th. She is survived by her sister Ellen Anderson and brother Glen Anderson and their families. She is the granddaughter of the late Christine and Waldo Kruse of Fort Calhoun. Visitation is Thursday 1pm, the Celebration of life, 2pm at Sievers Sprick Funeral Home


81 year old Emilie Volquartsen of Omaha passed away December 15th. She is the mother of Pastor Pat Volquartsen of Living Hope Assembly of God church in Blair. The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Volquartsen is this Thursday, with visitation from one to two pm and the memorial service starting at 2, both at Bellevue Christian Center

Westlawn-Hillcrest will be making arrangements.


91 year old Kenneth Deckard of Tekamah died December 18th. Visitation is Wednesday, December 28th at 9:30, the funeral for Mr. Deckard will follow at 10:30, both at Pelan.


73 year old James Nicola of Decatur passed away December 16th. He was a former mayor of Decatur and was a city council member. He is survived by his wife, Barb, his children Julie Stumpf, James and Donald Nicola, siblings Jeff, Joe, Susie Walenze, Nancy Mahon, Mary Hill and Theresa Portis and other family members. The celebration of life is Tuesday, December 27th , 11am at the Decatur City Auditorium
