Horse Illness Found in Washington County
We’ve been concerned with the flu, the Novel Corona Virus from China, among other epidemics. Now, an epidemic that IS here in Washington County – impacting horses.
A voluntary quarantine is in place for 30 horses according to The Horse.com.
Equine Herpes Virus 1 was confirmed by an area veterinarian February 6th. It starts off as a fever, and will intensify into a respiratory condition. Equine Herpes Virus 1 can cause broodmares to miscarry and can progress to a neurological form.
Routine bio-security measures are encouraged. A vaccine is available that could minimize the impact of the disease.
