Dry Weather Continues - Statewide Fire Ban Is Still In Effect

It’s no secret that the dry, windy conditions are responsible for many of the wildfires that have been occurring over the last few weeks in the midwest. Where do we set in the UNL drought monitor? The most recent drought map shows nearly the lower half of the nation is experiencing varying degrees of drought, and the upper plains westward are in drought as well. Patches of extreme drought are noted in northeast Nebraska, lower midsections and in the PanHandle.

Washington County shows about three quarters of the county in Moderate Drought with the remainder in the southeastern part in Abnormally Dry condition. You can see the full drought map online at droughtmonitor.unl.edu After the extreme wildfires in Central and Western Nebraska in the past several days, there is a state wide burn ban issued by Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen until this Friday, March 27 at 11:59 pm
