Nebraska is the first state which will require that able bodied adults aged 19 to 64 to work at least part time 80 hours per month if they receive Medicaid.
This measure announced yesterday by Governor Pillen and Dr. Oz, administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services – this goes into effect this coming May first. The work requirements can include employment, school attendance, apprenticeship, volunteering and other approved work programs.
This would NOT include those in foster care, those aged out of the foster care system until the age of 25, disabled individuals and their caregivers, members of recognized Native American tribes, pregnant women, parent or caregivers of children up to age 13 and disabled veterans with total disability, medically frail, those receiving substance abuse treatment and medicare part A or B recipients.
