The massive wildfires that have burned thousands of acres in central and western Nebraska began with dry conditions and winds. Eastern Nebraska also has dry conditions and winds. Yesterday Herman Volunteer Firefighters joined Blair, Tekamah, Irvington, Fort Calhoun and Bennington Fire and Rescue in putting out a field fire just north of Blair on Highway 75. It took several hours to contain and also closed Highway 75 for a time. The Blair Fire Department says the highway is now open for traffic. No injuries are indicated and the cause of that fire is under investigation. Those and other fires through the state are prompting Governor Jim Pillen to extend the existing burn ban through April 10th. (stock photo)
