Burt County Sheriff's Summary

The Burt County Sheriff’s Office reported that last week On September 3, 2026 The Burt County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an individual suffering from a mental health crisis who was armed with a firearm, and was possibly entering Burt County.

Shortly after receiving the call, the individual arrived at the Sheriff’s Office. The dispatcher was the only person inside.

Due to the unknown circumstances, and the reported firearm, Sheriff Nick requested that the school be placed on lock down as a precaution.

The individual eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. No firearm was located on the individual. There is no threat to the public, and the situation has been resolved.

The Burt County Sheriff's Office would like to thank all of the law enforcement agencies who responded and assisted in safely resolving the incident.
