BLAIR EMERGENCY SIRENS

The City of Blair reported after the last round of severe weather, they received several questions regarding the emergency sirens within our area. They were notified by several residents that one siren did not sound during the last storms. After conducting multiple tests yesterday, they discovered that the siren near 18th & Arbor had lost power due to storm-related wind damage. Repairs have since been completed, and all sirens are now operating as intended.
This serves as an important reminder to always have multiple ways to receive emergency notifications. Outdoor warning sirens are intended to be a secondary alert system. Primary notification methods should include local Radio, TV broadcasts, NOAA Weather Radio, emergency alert apps, and other trusted weather notification services.
We would also like to remind residents that the sirens sound for every Fire/Rescue call. However, there is a distinct difference in both tone and duration between a Fire/Rescue siren (fluctuating siren, approximately 30 seconds in length, between 7 am and 9 pm) and a Tornado Warning siren (continuous blast, approximately 3 minutes in length). If you have any questions regarding the city’s siren system, please feel free to contact City Hall.
