Thanksgiving Day Apartment Fire in Blair

An early morning fire Thanksgiving day displaced about 20 families at 16th and Adams. Some suffered smoke inhalation and one hospitalization is recorded. One pet also suffered smoke inhalation.

   

The Blair Fire Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s deputies evacuated the building, the Blair Volunteer Fire Department, Fort Calhoun, Kennard, Herman, Arlington and Bennington Fire departments also responded in that hours long incident, which was rekindled later in the morning.

   

Among those agencies helping the displaced residents of that apartment house fire – the Red Cross, based at First Lutheran. Some of those residents are housed at a local bed and breakfast, others are with relatives.

   

The cause of the fire, in a lower level apartment, may have been a cooking fire that was out of control.

   

Also on the Blair Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department’s summary for the weekend, responses to a person suffering chest pain, a car accident, and among other matters, four incidents where people were injured in falls.
